Admission Requirements and Deadlines

Completed applications are processed as they
are received throughout the year. International students who miss the deadlines are
required to submit an evaluation of their transcript(s) by an approved
educational evaluation firm.

From Whom: Professional references from an immediate supervisor, current or past, are preferred. Academic references are acceptable.
Coursework Required for Admission Consideration:
Students must hold a bachelor's degree, preferably in business. Those individuals who are not adequately prepared for the advanced level may be required to take a number of M.B.A. core courses. The department admissions committee will identify the core requirements on a case-by-case basis.
Bachelor's Degree in Discipline/Related Discipline:
A baccalaureate degree, not necessarily in a business discipline, is required.
Statement of Goals:
Two essays are required, one each on:
- Leadership:
Please describe an incident from your personal experiences that
typifies your definition of leadership. Specifically address ethics,
diversity, collaboration, and motivation.
- Goals:
Describe how you would expect to change over the course of the
program. What personal and professional values and skills do you hope to
acquire beyond academic content? How will obtaining the degree help
you achieve your career goals?
Standardized Test Scores:
The GRE/GMAT is required. Quantitative and verbal scores on the GRE should be in the 50th percentile or above. Scores under 500 on the GMAT are not considered for the M.S. program.
Minimum TOEFL score needed to be accepted: 100 iBT or 600 PBT. Applicants may substitute the IELTS for the TOEFL with a comparable score of 7.5.
Resume:
A resume is required.
Transfer Credit:
Upper-level graduate credits from an AACSB-accredited graduate business
program, but not previously applied to a conferred degree, may be
transferred into the M.B.A. program. The credits must be part of the
required degree program at Temple University. To be transferred, the
grade must be a "B" or better. The Admissions Committee makes
recommendations for transferring credits to the department chair. The
maximum number of credits a student may transfer is 6.

All or some of these courses may be waived by the Program advisor based on appropriate past coursework.
Required Course Electives:
Choose 4 from a pre-approved list of upper-level Accounting electives.
Choose 4 from a pre-approved list of upper-level Finance electives.
Choose 2 upper-level business electives.
Internship: No internship is required.
Language Examination: No language examination is required.

About the Program
The Fox School of Business and Management offers M.S. programs through which students acquire in-depth knowledge of one business discipline. These programs are ideally suited for the business professional who wishes to develop advanced mastery of one business specialization. Our approach to graduate education is to develop practical expertise through case analyses and presentations, interaction with business practitioners, and team projects. The Fox School prepares students to step immediately into key management roles in highly specialized fields. The Fox School is the region's second largest business graduate school with over 1,300 students studying in 35 graduate business areas of concentration.
Time Limit for Degree Completion: 6 years
Campus Location:
Center City, Fort Washington
Required business core courses are offered in a rotation cycle at the Center City and Fort Washington campuses. A selection of upper-level elective courses is offered at the Center City and Fort Washington campuses each semester. Courses may also be offered online.
Full-Time/Part-Time Status:
Students are able to complete the degree program on a part-time basis (8 credit hours or less per semester). Both full-time and part-time students are required to complete the degree program through classes offered after 4:30 p.m. Some required classes are offered only in Summer semesters.

Interdisciplinary Study:
Students seeking an M.S. in Accounting and Financial Management may take one of five tracks. In addition to accounting courses, students may take courses in finance and management information systems as part of their program. The course requirements are described within the tracks.

Research is supported by the Fox School of Business and Management's eBusiness Institute, the Center for e-Marketing, the Ethics Resource Center, the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, the Institute for Financial Services, the Institute of Global Management Studies, the Institute for Healthcare Management, the Safeguard Scientifics Center for Economic Education, and the Small Business Development Center. Research interests of the Fox School faculty are also supported by numerous centers and institutes throughout Temple University. The Accounting Department faculty conduct research in earnings manipulation, executive compensation, financial statement disorders, pension accounting, and SEC regulation of accounting.
Study Abroad:
The Fox School of Business provides graduate-level courses during the summer at its Rome, Italy campus.

Accreditation:
All of Fox School of Business and Management's graduate business programs are accredited by AACSB -- The International Association for Management Education.
Areas of Specialization:
To gain mastery, students complete a minimum of ten advanced level courses (5001 level or above) beyond either the prerequisites or foundation curricula.
Job Placement:
Graduates of the Fox School of Business and Management obtain jobs in computer/information technology; consulting; consumer products and services; energy/utilities; financial services/banking; government; healthcare; industrial productsand services; manufacturing; the pharmaceutical industry; telecommunications; and tourism/transportation.
Licensure:
Graduating students may prepare to become a Certified Management Accountant or a Certified Public Accountant. The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy maintains the CPA licensing requirements for all states. To qualify to take the CPA exam in Pennsylvania, one must take 24 semester hours in accounting and auditing, business law, finance, or tax subjects. The 24 semester hours must include a minimum of 3 semester hours in accounting and 3 semester hours in auditing, business law, finance, or tax.
Non-Matriculated Student Policy:
Students with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or above may take classes on a non-matriculated status. Non-matriculated students can take a maximum of 9 credit hours. Any additional courses require the student to be matriculated in a program.

Financing Opportunities
The Fox School of Business and Management has a limited number of graduate externships for assignments in academic and administrative departments. Work assignments are generally administrative in nature and may include word and data processing. An externship provides up to 20 hours of service per week. Students are required to submit applications directly to the department in which they wish to be appointed.
