Admission Requirements and Deadlines

From Whom: Letters of recommendation should be obtained from evaluators who can provide insight into your abilities and talents, as well as comment on your aptitude for graduate study.

Master's Degree in Discipline/Related Discipline:
A masters degree is a prerequisite for admisson
Bachelor's Degree in Discipline/Related Discipline:
All applicants must present credentials that are the equivalent of the appropriate baccalaureate degree at Temple University.
Statement of Goals:
The Statement of Goals should be approximately 500-1,000 words in length and should include the following elements: your specific interest in Temple's program; your research goals; your future career goals; and your academic and research achievements.
Standardized Test Scores:
GRE or MAT taken within the last 5 years. Candidates are expected to score above the 50%
The TOEFL or IELTS is required for non-native speakers of English.

Program Requirements
The program requires 48 credits beyond a master's degree. These credits include 18 credits in the specialty area (Language Arts or TESOL), 3 credits in curriculum, 3 credits in educational psychology, and 24 credits in research methods, including 6 credits in apprenticeship courses. The course work in research methods will include courses in collecting and analyzing data using both quantitative and qualitative tools as well as two three-credit research apprenticeships in which students will be working closely with a faculty member.

About the Program
The Ed.D. in Curriculum, Instruction, Technology in Education in Language Arts has two specializations:
Language Arts
The Language Arts specialization is designed to provide doctoral students with theoretical and practical tools that enable them to explore the learning and teaching of the English language in multiple settings, to engage in critical thinking about curricular and policy decisions, and to produce original research about how literacy is taught, learned, or used.
TESOL
The TESOL specialization is designed to provide doctoral students with theoretical and practical tools that enable them to produce original research on teaching and learning of English as a Second Language (ESL) and to engage in critical thinking about ESL policies and curricula.
Time Limit for Degree Completion: 4 years
Financing Opportunities
A limited number of Graduate Assistantships are available. Applications are available through the College of Education.
