Information Technology Management, M.B.A./M.S.

Admission Requirements and Deadlines
Application Deadline:

Fall: March 15

Spring: September 30

Completed applications are processed throughout the year as they are received. The Admissions Committee then reviews them. The Admissions Committee will review no application until the application is complete. International students who miss the December 15 deadline are required to submit to Temple University an evaluation of their transcript by an approved educational evaluation firm.

Letters of Reference:

From Whom: Letters of recommendation should be obtained from college/university faculty members familiar with academic competence and/or immediate work supervisor.

Coursework Required for Admission Consideration:

Any student who has not received, in the last six years, a business degree from an AACSB accredited business school is required to take six foundation courses: Accounting, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Marketing, and Management Science / Operations Management prior to beginning the program in late August. These six courses are offered in a special condensed program the summer preceding admission to the program. The summer program lasts 12 weeks and begins in late May. Additionally, two years of work experience is highly recommended. The work does not need to be in a technology field.

Statement of Goals:

Applicants for the M.B.A. program are expected to submit a Statement of Goals that describes future goals in specific terms. Applicants should avoid use of generalizations or blanket statements. The Statement of Goals should address how the M.B.A. will assist in achieving the applicant's goals.

Standardized Test Scores:

The GMAT is required. Applicants to the M.B.A. program should ideally have attained a total GMAT score of 600 or higher. Applicants with GMAT scores below 550 are encouraged to re-take the GMAT examination.

Minimum TOEFL score or range of scores needed to be accepted: 230 on the computerized exam or 575 on the paper exam. Students scoring less than 600 on the paper-based TOEFL or 250 on the computer-based TOEFL are required to take the SPEAK test and may be required to take an English course to improve communication skills.

Resume:

A resume is required.

Students are required to complete the degree program through classes offered before 4:30 p.m.

All courses in the M.B.A./M.S. in Information Technology Management program are required to be taken at the Fox School of Business. This M.B.A./M.S. is a lock-step, cohort program. In addition to the 18 credits of required foundation courses and the 12 credits in Advanced Managerial Perspectives, M.B.A./M.S. in E-Business students are required to take:

GSM 555: E-Commerce Entrepreneurial Start-up Project (3 s.h.)

HRA 555: Coordination and Control

LAW 555: E-Commerce Law and Regulation (1.5 s.h.)

MIS 560: Information Technology Principles for Network-Centric Businesses (3 s.h.)

MIS 561: Information Systems Applications in Organizations (3 s.h.)

MIS 562: Database Management Systems and Data Modeling (3 s.h.)

MIS 563: Systems Analysis and Rapid Application Development (3 s.h.)

MIS 564: Interactive Site Design (1.5 s.h.)

MKT 555: Electronic Supply Chain Management and e-Procurement (3 s.h.)

MKT 556: Customer Behavior, Segmentation, Communication and Pricing (3 .s.h)

All M.B.A./M.S. in Information Technology Management candidates are required to complete a summer integrative experience in the summer between the first and second year. The experience includes an internship, business plan incubator project, independent study, or faculty research.

Internship: Yes, an internship is required. Students are required complete an integrative summer experience that can include an internship or could be business plan development, independent study, or research project. The majority of students seek internships. Students are given numerous networking activities throughout the year to provide potential contacts for internships.

Language Examination: No language examination is required.

Additional Requirements:

EBZ 570 and EBZ 571 are one credit courses for career and professional development that include corporate networking, e-Business breakfasts, speakers series, etc.

Culminating Events:

Capstone Course Sequence:

Students are required to successfully complete the capstone course sequence. The purpose of the capstone sequence is to ensure that M.B.A. candidates have mastered the skills necessary to conduct business analysis. The capstone sequence is graded in the normal manner by the instuctor.

About the Program

The Fox School of Business and Management offers M.B.A. programs that help develop a solid understanding of business models created by the synergistic forces of globalization, entrepreneurship and information technology. Our approach to graduate education helps develop practical expertise through case analysis, presentations, interaction with business practitioners, and team projects. The Fox School prepares students to step immediately into key management roles in highly specialized fields. The Fox School is the region's second largest business graduate school with over 1300 students studying in 16 areas of concentration including management information systems and e-business. Prior to beginning the M.B.A./M.S. in Information Technology Management program, applicants are required to complete six foundation courses: accounting, finance, economics, statistics, marketing and managment science. The Fox School grants waivers for these courses for any applicant who has received an undergraduate business degree from an AACSB accredited school. For other applicants they should plan to complete the required foundation courses in the summer preceding the M.B.A./M.S. program or they may take a waiver examination.

The Fox School of Business and Management is currently ranked in the top 75 business schools by Forbes and in the top 50 programs for our Executive M.B.A. The Fox School has also been ranked 14th for technology M.B.A. programs by Computerworld, and holds a specialty ranking of 26th in the nation for healthcare management programs. Non-Degree Student Policy:

The M.B.A./M.S. in Information Technology Management program is a cohort program that takes two consecutive years to complete. Due to the cohort nature of the program, it can not be begun as a non-matriculated student.

Financing Opportunities

The Fox School of Business and Management has a limited number of graduate externships for assignments in academic and administrative departments. Work assignments are generally administrative in nature and may include word and data processing. An externship provides up to 20 hours of service per week. Students are required to submit applications directly to the department in which they wish to be appointed
